Drinking Water Sample Collection for Lead and Copper
 
  1. Tap water should stand motionless in the plumbing for a minimum of six hours before the samples are collected. It may be most convenient to collect the samples in the morning.
     
  2. Collect samples from the cold water tap in either the kitchen or bathroom.
     
  3. Fill the sample bottle (1 liter plastic) right to the neck.
     
  4. Complete the chain of custody form with the sampler’s signature, date and time of sample collection, and sample location.
     
  5. Samples must be returned to the laboratory within 14 days of sample collection.
